Fortress Of The Bear an educational bear rescue center located in Sitka, Alaska. We bring orphaned bears from all over the state of Alaska and find homes for them in zoos and sanctuaries internationally.  We currently have 8 resident orphaned bears in 3 separate enclosures.  These enclosures mimic the natural settings that they would normally be found.  Visitors view from above in a covered area and have the opportunity to observe and photographic their continuous antics.

Your Visit

WALK-IN SPACE IS AVAILABLE!!

We have been receiving numerous inquiries about walk-in availability or selling out of tickets. We are pleased to announce that we have added space to our outside viewing deck and changed the flow of traffic to allow for more walk-in space all-day, everyday!

(If you should happen to arrive at a time our viewing deck is at capacity, it is typically less than a 10-minute wait to come in and visit with the bears.)

**We DO NOT offer advance admission or reservations at this time.

If you want to see bears, this is the place.

This is your opportunity to get within 25 feet of Alaska's distinctive brown bears in a naturalized setting. Our three-quarter acre habitats are located about 5 miles from the town center, set against the Tongass National Forest. Enjoy 3 populations of bears and observe their unique personalities from a large, covered viewing platform, indoor balcony windows, or ground level windows. Meet experienced naturalists as they share their love and knowledge of this often feared, yet most revered creature of the forest. Learn the challenges we face as we work to rescue these incredible giants.

The highlight of our trip!

In order to discourage the bears from getting into a routine, there is no set feeding time. However, the bears love to have visitors and interact with the keepers. Tours last approximately 30 minutes, followed by time to view on your own and visit the gift shop. A beverage area and restrooms are also available.

Sitka’s most popular tour.
